The MTV Video Music Awards 2009 was held on September 13, 2009 at Radio City Music Hall in New York. The host of the event was the second consecutive year, British comedian Russell Brand.The list of nominees was announced on 4 August 2009. Lady GaGa and Beyonc lead the nominations with nine categories each ( Beyonc with the song Single Ladies and Lady GaGa with Poker Face and Paparazzi), followed by Britney Spears with seven nominations (two for Womanizer and five for Circus). Other nominees are Eminem and Kanye West, who have four nominations in the same categories: Video of the Year, Best Male Video, Best Hip-Hop Video and Best Special Effects.
